Portsmouth became home to its first jewish immigrants, Abraham and Rachel Isaac, in 1780. In the early 20th century 30 families joined together to found the Temple of Israel. The present building was built in 1827 as the Methodist Church. It became home to a Jewish congregation in 1912. |
