Hotel on Pleasant St. in Portsmouth.Treadwell-Jenness house was built in 1818 after the fire of 1813 destoryed the home of Sheriff Thomas Packer. On this site was Colonel Brewster's boarding house where Washington was entertained in 1789. First owner was Ann Treadwell a wealthy widow. By mid-1800s owned by Richard Jenness, sometimes Mayor of Portsmouth. Became the Merrick Hotel. Purchased in 1901 by E. G. Merrick. |
