An 1818 brick building historically referred to as the Treadwell-Jenness House and at this time known as the Elks Home, 93 Pleasant on the corner of Court Street, Portsmouth, NH. Image and report (see link) from the Historic District Survey, 1982-1983, by the Portsmouth Advocates, Inc. According to the report, the "building stands on the site of Sheriff Thomas Packer's house, which perished in the 1813 Fire. It was the home of Ex-Mayor Richard Jenness, later became the Hotel Merrick, and finally (in 1908) the Elks Home, which it remains today." |
