14-18 Pleasant Street located behind the North Church. Built in 1800 by Daniel Austin. First 3-story store in Portsmouth. Later a fire destroyed the upper story and it was remodeled to have a mansard roof. Considered one of the oldest in the downtown area. On August 26, 1975, a fire gutted the building. The land was purchased by the First National Bank as a parking lot. Site of a new building at 10 Pleasant Street. |
