Ella P. Walker (most likely) crocheting on the rooftop of 16 Pleasant Street known as the Glebe Land Building (among other names), Portsmouth, NH. Nitrate Film. Congress Block and other Congress Street buildings are seen in the distance. William Walker (likely the photographer) lived at 16 Pleasant Street with his wife Ella Pray Stover Walker. The couple were married in Portsmouth on Dec. 16, 1922. It was William's third marriage and Ella's second. In 1938, William died, and Ella lived in Greenland on a farm that she had owned. A few years later, she sold the farm and returned to Portsmouth and resided in the Home for Aged Women on Deer Street. Image scanned from nitrate film. Only a digital copy exists. |
