A colored steel engraving of George Washington with his mother. Washington is kneeling on the floor with his mother's hand in his. Mrs. Washington holds her other hand above Washington's head and raises her eyes to the ceiling. A woman stands in the open doorway. Below image are the words, "Washington's Last Interview with His Mother", along with a description of their last meeting. Image was painted by W.H. Powell, and engraved by Henry Cousins. Engraving is from New York, "Published Jany. 1st 1864 by William Schaus 749 Broadway". Engraving was "Entered according to Act of Congress in the year 1864 by Wm. Schaus in the Clerk's Office of the District Court of the United States for the Southern District of New York". Engraving is in a dark wood frame with a gold lining. |
