Description |
Small door of carved pine; wooden knob new, hole left by an earlier (not original) knob. Obverse Side: 24 letters and ciphers of the Alphabet. The statement ""Ye 24 Leters" is placed above a design that appears to be a monogram. This design includes all 24 letters of the early 18th century alphabet. At the bottom: The year 1705/M.10 and a figure underneath with a spear in the right hand and serpent in the left hand. Reverse Side: Upper Panel: foliage border with foliage carvings in the oval. Reverse Side: Lower Panel: human figure holding a wine bottle/jug in raised hand. See Portsmouth Chronicle 4/11/1853 for more information about donation. |
