A Hogarth black and white copperplate engraving, showing a group of hungry French soldiers trailing behind a man carrying a large side of beef. A monk paws hungrily at the beef, and Hogarth himself can be seen sketching the scene in the left corner. A Jacobite can be seen sitting on the ground, slumped against a wall. The entire scene takes place in front of the city gates. Image is in a black and gold frame with a white mat. |
