Wedding Party for Joshua Winslow Peirce and Constance Heffenger who were married in Portsmouth on May 6, 1911. Following the noon wedding ceremony, a wedding breakfast was served at the Heffenger House on Austin Street. According to the front page of the Portsmouth Herald on May 6, 1911, this was a "brilliant society wedding at the Unitarian Church." Priscilla Heffenger Stewart (believed to be the fourth woman from the right) was the maid of honor and George M. Proctor Jr. (believed to be left of Priscilla Heffenger Stewart) of Boston was the best man. Bridesmaids were Mary Lowell of Boston, Hilda Valentine of Grafton, MA, Dorothy Foster Stewart, Bianca Cogswell Harrington Bingham (third woman from the right), Marion Hackett Rogers (believed to be second woman from the right) and Ellnora Ingebretsen Richter Rice (far right). Ushers were James S. Proctor and Thomas S. Streeter of Boston, Nathan H. Bachelder of Keene, Stephen Decatur Jr. (believed to the left of the bride) of Kittery Point, and Ralph May and Frederic Gooding (believed to be far right, back row), both of Portsmouth. Image was framed. Some identification was written on the back of the frame. |
