Description |
Hallway in the Larkin-Rice House, 180 Middle Street, Portsmouth, NH. Around 1900, the house was known as the home of Dr. Moritz Emil Richter (1825-1907) and his family. His daughter Ellnora Ingebretsen Richter (1885-1981) married Arthur Hopkins Rice Jr. in 1911. Rice was a naval officer and was stationed in San Diego, Boston, and Washington, D.C. En verso are two different handwritings. One identifies the handwriting "Interiors taken 1926 / 180 Middle Street, Portsmouth" as that of Mrs. Rice. Additional information includes that the wallpaper was added in 1924 and the house was rented to Mrs. Chappell (Alice Ball Larkin) and her daughter Mrs. Toulmin, 1924-1928. |
