Description |
Two unidentified men standing next to each other, and the younger man appears to be a prisoner with a manacle on his wrist. Undated. In 1898, the photographer Richard D. McDonough was a young journalist covering the Spanish prisoners at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in 1898. He boarded the St. Louis as "assistant" to his friend and former newspaperman City Health Officer Dr. F. S. Towle. He was the only reporter to gain access onto the ship. The man at left may be Admiral Cervera, but it is unclear. |
