Description |
View of a commercial and residential property with two storefronts and an apartment at 117-121 Vaughan Street on the corner of School Street in the North End, Portsmouth, NH. Image and report (see link) by Ralph S. Foster Co., Inc., as part of the original Sales Study (Original) for the Acquisition Appraisal for the Vaughan Street Project, Portsmouth Urban Renewal, Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Each sale was selected for "the purpose of assisting in the determination of land value within the area of the taking." According to the report (Land & Building Sale #44), Barbara Byrns Schmidt-Courvoisier & Jean Byrnes Zacharias sold the property to Bishop L. & Jewel L. Buckley on February 1, 1962. Barbara and Jean were the daughters of the previous owner, Ernest Howard Byrns, who ran the Portsmouth Fix-It shop there from about the 1940s until his death. On the typescript report under the comments section is the following: "Busy street, congested." The building was demolished during urban renewal. |
