Description |
View of 20 Manning Place and 139 Manning Street, Portsmouth, NH. Owned by Tony Lacava, the property was identified as Parcel A-14-2 by the Portsmouth Housing Authority's South End Urban Redevelopment Project. Occupants were Mrs. Muchmore (six rooms and a bath at $35 per month) and Mr. Rooney (five rooms and a bath at $40 per month). According to the report, the property was "in fair condition for care it's had" and was well built. Full report submitted by Reginald P. Kennard on September 28, 1955. Two children appear in a window to the left of the doorway. At far left is the edge of 168 Marcy Street, a residence which was excluded from the survey and still stands today. At right is a view up Manning Street with a woman walking toward camera. At far right is the unidentified young assistant (possibly Kennard's son Reginald Jr.) partially hidden behind shrubbery. This duplex was demolished, and the site is now in the vicinity of the visitor parking lot at Strawbery Banke Museum. Image and report (see link) from MS080 Portsmouth Housing Authority manuscript collection. |
