Description |
View of duplex known as the Rider-Wood House at 14-16 Jefferson Street (center) on the corner of Whidden Place, Portsmouth, NH. Owned by Andrew and Peter Jarvis, the property was identified as Parcel A-5-1 by the Portsmouth Housing Authority's South End Urban Redevelopment Project. Occupants listed were Robert Conover in one unit (four rooms and a toilet) and J. V. Marshall (four rooms and a toilet). There were no baths in either unit with just a toilet and washstand, and rent was $16 each week. Full report submitted by Reginald P. Kennard on September 28, 1955. The building today is known as the Rider-Wood House, a historic house on the campus of Strawbery Banke Museum. Building at left was demolished. An unidentified young assistant (possibly Kennard's son Reginald Jr.) holds up the sign. Image and report (see link) from MS080 Portsmouth Housing Authority manuscript collection. |
