Property abutted the Vaughan Street Parking Lot, which is the vantage point for the photographer. Image and report (see link) was for Parcel 12-17 in the "Appraisal Report and Valuation Analysis for the Portsmouth Housing Authority, N. H. R-10 - Vaughan Street Project, Portsmouth, New Hampshire" report by Ralph S. Foster Co., Inc. Date of appraisal was March 17, 1967. Parcel 12-17 was owned by David A., Irving L., Edward, and Lee Tober, and the building was demolished during the Vaughan Street Urban Renewal Project. On the typescript report, the building was listed as 40 years old, and it was described as being in very good condition. Recent improvements included "interior decorating of store, concrete block addition in rear in 1959 at cost of $33,300." Reported listed the property address as 147-149, 153-157 Congress, which would be incorrect as 157 is the next building. Sanborn maps show the property as 147-153 Congress. |
