Description |
A northerly view of the waterfront businesses on Water Street, Portsmouth, NH. Undated. Below and written in pencil is the caption, "Water St." The photographer was standing on the Liberty Bridge. At the right in the immediate foreground is the base of the Liberty Pole, which cast a shadow. On the left side is a large advertisement for the "Great London Shows" circus. The next building with the man standing in front was a grocery store, which was occupied around this time by Alonzo K. W. Green. Nearly all buildings seen in the photograph were demolished. A two-story brick building slightly off-center still stands today as the Players' Ring. |
