Three brothers from York, Maine, pose with their wagonloads of baskets for sale in Market Square, Portsmouth, NH. Undated. At left is High Street. En verso includes information. The image comes from "They Came To Fish" by Ray Brighton, first published in 1973 and revised in 1979 and 1994. In the 1979 edition, the caption was as follows: "Market Square was indeed once a market place, attracting country traders to the city with their wares. Shown in this old photo are three brothes from York who were peddling baskets on the north side of the Square in front of the Athenaeum." |
