Photograph of a 1927 painting of the ship Noonday, William Henry, artist. The Noonday was built in 1855 at the Fernald & Petigrew Shipyard, Portsmouth, NH. She made three successful round-trip passages from the east coast to the west coast. On her fourth voyage, however, she struck an uncharted rock near the entrance to San Francisco harbor. Noonday sank on January 1, 1863. All hands were saved. |
