The Oracle House, built c. 1709, at its second location at the corner of Court and Middle streets in Haymarket Square, Portsmouth, NH. The Oracle House's earliest known location was directly behind the North Meeting House in Market Square. About 1800, the house was moved to Haymarket Square and in 1937, moved again to its current location on the corner of Marcy and Court streets. The house's name comes from the Portsmouth Oracle newspaper, which began its publication here in the house in 1793. |
