View of Congress Street near the intersection of Fleet Street, Portsmouth, NH. Undated. Two copies. The image comes from "They Came To Fish" by Ray Brighton, first published in 1973 and revised in 1979 and 1994. In the 1979 edition, the caption was as follows: "This was Congress Street in the "Horse-and-Buggy-Days" made famous in song and folk-lore. The viewer will note that two-way traffic then prevailed, and that the period was prior to the coming of the electric railroad. (Staples Photo)" En verso on is the stamp for Garland W.
