Langelier Sr., right, the Seacoast Area chairman for Carter's campaign, at an early January campaign event at Yoken's on Lafayette Road, Portsmouth, NH. All others are unidentified. According to the Portsmouth Herald on January 8, 1976, about 250 people turned out on January 7 for a "get together" at Yoken's to hear him speak on issues such as "busing and 'brass heavy' military forces." This photograph was published on the front page with the caption: Carter for President / Former Georgia Gov. Jimmy Carter brought his campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination to a gathering of about 250 people last night in Portsmouth at Yoken's Restaurant. He is shown shaking hands with Leo Langelier, a former Portsmouth Board of Adjustment member." En verso is the date the photo was to be published (January 8, 1976). |
