Interior of St. John's Church showing the altar decorated with greenery and flowers for a Hovey wedding on Chapel Street, Portsmouth, NH. Katharine Emerson Hovey of Portsmouth married William Marston Seabury of New York City at St. John's Church on Nov. 10, 1900. Her father was Rev. Henry Emerson Hovey of St. John's Church. Rev. Dr. William J. Seabury, father of the groom, performed the wedding. According to the Portsmouth Herald on Nov. 10, 1900, the church was "most attractively decorated for the event by the ladies of St. John's parish under the direction of Mr. Hannaford of this city." Samuel George Hannaford was a florist in Portsmouth in 1900. Glass-plate envelope marked in ink: "St. John's Ch., Hovey Wedding." |
