Summary |
Location 1: Near Market Street and docks (before the Revolution until fire destroyed the building in 1802) - Eleazer Russell and Joseph Whipple, collectors. Location 2: Southwest corner of State and Pleasant Sts. (1802-1813). Location 3: Corner of State and Chestnut Sts., home of Col. James Whipple (1813-1817) Location 4: "old custom house," Corner of Daniel and Penhallow Sts. (1817-1860) Location 5: Federal building, Corner of Pleasant and State Sts. (1860-early 1900's, when Port of Portsmouth customs became a subport under the Portland, Me. collector of customs.) Note: Possible other locations depending on who was collector.
