First celebrated in 1853 and then 1873 as Return of the Sons. Brought Portsmouth natives back to the city of their birth for parades, festivities and commemorations. The largest celebration occurred on July 4, 1873, the year of the city's 250th anniversary. Developed into a 4 day celebration. |
