Also known as the Pile Bridge or Portsmouth and Kittery Bridge. A wooden trestle bridge built in 1822 and incorporated in 1823 in the vicinity of the old/new Sarah Mildred Long Bridge. Completed in five months at the cost of $30,000. Bought by the railroad companies in 1840. Highway bridge was closed in 1921 and the railroad bridge (Portsmouth-Kittery Railroad Bridge) operated until 1939 when it collapsed under the weight of a train. |
