City's municipal airport was leased by the Navy during World War II and was transferred to the Air Force in 1946 and in 1956 it formally opened as Portsmouth Air Force Base. Renamed in 1957 in honor of New Hampshire native and Medal of Honor recipient Captain Harl Pease Jr., an Army Air Corps pilot killed during World War II. Closed in 1991. |

Includes Oak Hill, the Pease Aquaducts, Haven Springs, close-ups of the Haven and Harrison wells, the Portsmouth Aquaduct, pipes laid after 1891 and before 1940, an aerial view of the Portsmouth Air Force Base in 1942, and a 1964 plan of a new well field.
