Grocery store operating on Penhallow Street (Spring Hill) in Portsmouth, N.H. from 1849 (as John Rider) to 1876. The grocery was owned by John Rider and became John Rider & son in 1858 when his son John Edward Rider joined him in the business. In 1866 when John Rider, Sr. died John Edward Rider and his brother-in-law Lafayette V. Newell formed a partnership and continued the store under the same name John Rider & son. The partnership was dissolved in 1876 and Newell bought John Edward Rider's interest in the business. |
