27 acre island east of Point of Graves now known as Peirce Island. Originally the property of Dr. Renald Fernald who arrived in 1631. It's first name was Doctor's Island, then Waterhouse Island. Eastern end became known as Partridge Island, the near end as Mendum's Island and by 1776 that end was known as Janvrin's Island. Renamed Isle of Washington in 1778. |
