Born in Portsmouth 6/29/1784, the son of Edmund and Sarah Griffiths Roberts. Edmund Roberts was appointed a special agent of the US Government by President Andrew Jackson in 1832 and sent to negotiate treaties with Siam, Muscat, and Cochin China. Copies of the treaties with Siam and Muscat, along with his appointment and citizenship certificates are in this collection. Gift of Harriet Langdon Pruyn Rice, ca. 1919.
