first worked as a shipfitter at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard during WWII before working 13 years as a carpenter for W. C. Philbrick Co.. He then became a self-employed building contractor specializing in restorations from a shop on Sagamore Avenue; he worked on many of the historic houses in Portsmouth, including the Daniel Webster House at Strawbery Banke Museum, the Warner House, and the John Paul Jones House. He retired in 1980. He was honored to be asked and proud of his ability to carve the replica of the Freedom Shield on the Liberty Pole at Prescott Park. |
