Scope and Content The collection is mainly related to research leading to the publication of a history of Portsmouth Hospital in the early 1980s. Box 1 contains notes and correspondence related to the research project. Box 2 contains photocopies of published articles related to the history of the hospital as well as some more general medical history. The second part of the collection contains hospital records including: staff meeting records (with monthly hospital statistics for the early twentieth century) and ledgers recording hospital finances and investments. Folder List Box 1 Folder 1 Research Committee Notes, includes committee member meetings, survey of hospital departments, basic outline of research, timeline for book publication, and summary of known archival materials Folder 2 Research Correspondence, includes memos and correspondence regarding research inquiries and requests for information Folder 3 Research Notes, includes outlines and notes regarding physicians and history of medicine Folder 4 Research Note Cards, miscellaneous facts about medicine and the hospital’s history Folder 5 Research – Lizzie Wood’s Diary. Lizzie Woods was a nurse at the Cottage Hospital and kept a diary of daily activities and reflections from 1888-1891. Folder includes a transcription of the diary. Lizzie mentions the names of patients she is treating, conditions in the hospital, doctors such as Dr. Parsons of Rye.
