Title |
John Cushing to John Langdon |
Scope & Content |
John Cushing in Boston to John Langdon in Portsmouth N.H. Writes that he has procured cloth agreeable to Langdon from the Army, as well as two and a half dozen buttons and one sham twist. He refers to Shays' Rebellion (though not by name), and says that he thinks it will be dispersed without much bloodshed. There is a bill in the General Court (of Massachusetts) to disqualify those who bore arms against the government from holding office of any kind or voting for three years and to give up their arms and swear an oath of allegiance to the state. Cushing's young son has been extremely ill, but is now in "a fair way to do well." . Dated February 14, 1787. |
