One-page letter from Gideon Granger in Washington, DC, to John Langdon in Portsmouth. Transcription by Cecilia Paquette: Ansd. Genl. Post Office Feb. 20 1802 My friend. I have this day recd. yours of the 9th. I do not now recollect that you have ever said one word requesting Levi Dearborne Postmaster at Rochester. I wish to know his Character. I have informd. you that Robbins, Wells & Dow are appointed. This day I have appointed Heald. Pray give me more information respecting Thompson living off the post road. will you write the particulars? I wish much to know them. I have assignd. the reason of my not acting at Claremont. as for Danl. Sewal at York, we have had a Consultn. & for reasons of State it is decided agt. a removal at present of which I pray you to Inform our friend. The new Judiciary will be abolished. The Senate are not doing much at present. The Tories feel very warm. I am in the midst of a Thunder Storm. transformd. into an Idiot, not knowing my Mother Tongue.
