Diary kept by William P. Young of Portsmouth while he was in school. Includes discussion of school work, coin collecting, use of the Public Library (from operning day in 1881 books checked out), fishing, outings to the Wentworth and the Rockingham, Boston, Mass., dances, social engagements, etc. Notes of curiosities include the 5/18/1881 trip to Rye Harbor to see the 66 foot whale that had beached itself, yellow Tuesday (Sept. 6, due to a fire in Michigan) and a comet (June 28th).
