Jonathan Marshall Tredick Vennard Day Book |
Scope & Content |
Account book for store owned by Jonathan Marshall Tredick Vennard in New Castle, NH. Vennard was born in 1802 and died in 1839. After his death his store, and the account book, appears to be taken over by his wife, Frances M. (Locke) Vennard. In 1840 the estate of J M T Vennard was probated and in the account book it appears that Frances M. Vennard sells her dowry share of the store contents to Ezekiel Twombley. J M T Vennard's store sold hard goods such as books, matches, combs, chamber pots, candles, glass, brooms, plates, bowls and lead as well as spices (nutmeg, cinnamon, cayenne, pepper), tea, coffee, cotton, silk, rice, tobacco, meal, flour, bread, sugar, stick candy, peppermint, chocolate, lard, beans, apples, potatoes, eggs, pork, cheese, butter, soap and hallibut. Includes individuals as entered in the "People" field. In addition to individuals, the Town of New Castle appears in the ledger, purchasing "Town House Supplies." |
