Title |
Letter and transcription, Frederick Toscan to William Parrott |
Scope & Content |
Letter from Frederick Toscan, nephew, in Portsmouth NH to William Parrott in Gloucester MA, July 2, 1827. Transcription of same. A mariner recently returned to Portsmouth from a voyage he briefly mentions in the letter, Toscan suggests that his uncle William join in the negotiations to purchase a farm from Enoch Greenleafe Parrott (William's brother), the sale of which had been offered to Toscan at a bargain price, only for the offer to be withdrawn once Enoch's wife became involved. Frederick suggests that having William aboard would help the negotations along. Enoch wants the land in Greenland and Portsmouth handled at the same time, which appears to be another sticking point. "Were it no more than a speculation for interest I should have wished the farm and myself as far asunder as the earth could separate us," Frederick says. |
