Description An etching of General Lafayette. Lafayette is shown seated, holding a map or other document open in his hands. He is dressed in uniform, and has a sword hanging at his side. His hat is placed on a drum behind his chair. One glove is in his lap, while the other has fallen to the ground. Lafayette is seated next to a small table that has an inkwell and a book on it. Underneath the image is written, "Drawn by Alonzo Chappel". Below that is the facsimile signature, "Lafayette", and below that, "From an authentic painting in the possession of the publishers./Johnson, Fry & Co. Publishers, New York/Entered according to act of Congress A.D. 1863 by Johnson, Fry & Co. in the clerk office of the district court of the southern district of N.Y."
