S1456 - Rice Family Papers, 1669-

A collection of documents, both original and later manuscript copies, many concerning members of the Rice family of Kittery. Folder 1 contains seven deeds, dating from 1669 to 1766. Folder 2 contains a 1754 letter of instruction to the sheriff and constable of York County to arrest Lemuel Witham for non-payment of taxes (Samuel Rice was the tax collector and constable for Kittery), and in notebook form, Samuel Rice's copy of the 1754 town and county tax records for the town of Kittery, E(ben) Moore's appraisal of Benjamin Barnard's estate, and a sales account book for crockery, glass and brown ware, hollow ware and wooden ware.
