S0884 - Humphreys / Sparhawk Legal Ledger

Ledger kept by Daniel Humphreys. Humphreys was born in Connecticut, educated at Yale and then practiced law in Portsmouth. He served as United States District Attorney for New Hampshire from 1804-1827. One part of the ledger (1791) may contain entries from another member of the family, as Daniel Sparhawk appears in the expense lines. This portion of the ledger includes transactions with many prominent Portsmouth men including Daniel Pickering, Benjamin Hart, William Brewster, Doctor Hall Jackson, Sir William Pepperrell, John Sparhawk, and William Stavers. The second portion of the ledger (1804-1826) is more certainly Daniel Humphreys, as it dates from the same period as his tenure as
