S0803 - Lewis W. Brewster Journal, 1848-1850

Journal kept by Brewster as a journeyman printer in Portsmouth. Brewster relates his activities such as attending french classes, singing school, lectures, etc. He mentions local news including shipwrecks, politics, friends going to the gold fields. He writes of his job, office jokes, time schedules, & work at the press. He mentions names of many local acquaintences: Edward Ham, articit Thomas P. Moses, teacher Isreal Kimball, Rufus Oxford, and others. William LLyod Garrison and Lucy Stone of the Massachusetts Anti-Slavery Society are discussed after a January event in 1850.
