Vittoria (Fracassi) Pesaresi and Mario Pesaresi, married January 1, 1916. Mario emigrated from Bellaria, Igea Marina, Italy, in 1912 at the age of 18. Vittoria emigrated from Santarcangelo di Romagna, Italy, in 1912 with her mother Matilda Guidi Fracassi and five siblings: Pia, Vera, Alba, Angelo and Renato. Mario emigrated from Bellaria Igea Marina, Italy (just north of Rimini) in 1912 at the age of 18. He married Vittoria Fracassi on January 1, 1916 and began working at the Continental Shoe Company. He then worked for the Italian Cooperative Market at the corner of Market Street and Deer Street, where he learned the skills to be a meat cutter. Mario opened his first market on the corner of Market and Hanover streets. Mario's Market then moved across the street to 101 Market Street, where another photograph (P0050_074) was taken with Mary Dondero, the first female mayor of Portsmouth. Mario's Market at 101 Market St. was purchased by the Canino family around 1950 and operated until the 1970s. |
