Description |
Residents and neighbors of 33-35 Deer Street in the North End, Portsmouth, NH. The house was demolished in the 1970s during urban renewal. Circle on the chimney says 1705. The photo was taken in 1935 by the US Government as part of the Works Project Administration (WPA) created under Franklin Delano Roosevelt's New Deal. The Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS) in New Hampshire was one of the WPA's many projects. Approximately 25 architecture students and graduates took part in the project, most of whom were from the University of New Hampshire. Residents and neighbors have been identified as the following individuals (from l to r): Edmond and Dorothy Pesaresi, Ted Trifonopoulas, Walter Pesaresi, Ugo Tosi (sitting on the fence); Martina Ravaglia and Lucia Procario (both standing in front of the door); Azo Ferrini, Larzarine Tosi (standing behind Azo & Adam), Adam Pesaresi, Lincoln Tosi (squatting in front of Adam), and Angelina "Angie" Fracassi (leaning on utility pole).* This image is also in the Library of Congress. See also PS2480.01. *Description updated in February 2022 to include Angelina Fracassi who was previously only known as "young girl." Angelina was identified by Jack Keenan. |
