Description |
Pesaresi, Ferrini and Tosi families, Deer Street / Russell Street, North End, Portsmouth, NH. These children were all dressed up for Halloween. No one had the money to buy costumes during the Great Depression. These costumes were generally made from whatever was available around the house. Neighborhood children were sometimes sent to Mario's Market to get 'gunny sacks' to make their costumes. These rough burlap sacks were used to ship grain or potatoes to the store. Left to right: Mary Pesaresi holding Dorothy Pesaresi, Azio Ferrini, Lincoln Tosi, Fred Tosi, Adam Pesaresi. |
