Unidentified woman in a nurse's uniform connected with the Paterson family of Portsmouth, NH.
The Paterson family was from Nova Scotia. Edward Paterson came to Portsmouth to work as a landscaper at the Frank Jones estate. His brother Robert was Frank Jones' head carpenter. In 1898 Edward started the firm of E.L. Paterson, Contractors and Builders. When his sons Frank, John and David joined the business, it became E.L. Paterson and Sons on Plains Avenue. A cousin, also named Edward Paterson, owned a paint and home decorating store on Daniel Street in the 1950s-1970s.
Frank Paterson, one of Edward L. and Charlotte (Lottie) Paterson's sons, married Muriel Seaman whose family was from Rowley, MA. They were related to the Durgin family of Greenland, NH. Many of the photographs in this collection could be of the Durgin relatives.
