Collection of 19 letters dating from 1881 to 1889 to and from Mary A. Harris. Letters appear to be primarily from former classmates of Mary's as well as between Mary and her mother and sister while she was staying with friends in Durham, NH and while traveling with her father.
Mary A. Harris was the daughter of Robert L. Harris and Lucy M. Kimball, born December 18, 1864 and died February 15, 1952. The family home in Portsmouth was located at 43 Austin Street however they were frequently traveling sometimes with their father who was engaged in construction of railroads and bridges throughout the United States. Mary was an artist and the Athenaeum has a collection of her artwork as well as other collections of her letters. See also MS065 Mary A.
